| Record Number of DUI Arrests on Fourth of July Weekend |
With law enforcement stepping up their game on the Fourth of July weekend, it is no surprise that the amount of DUI arrests was similarly increased, setting a new record for the holiday weekend.
Law enforcement nabbed 434 arrests for DUI. In 2009, this number hovered around 350, while it was closer to 400 in 2008.
Of those arrested this year, just under 50 of those could be facing charges of aggravated DUI, while 26 face extreme DUI charges.
Over 1000 officers were out on the streets over the weekend, stopping over 9,000 vehicles Friday through Monday in their increased efforts to keep roads safe and drunken drivers off of it. Paired with the increased DUI arrests, over 4,000 tickets were also issued for speeding or other violations.
